I do not use the fence drill at all in any drills.

The fence drill enforces the lead arm and lead shoulder pull the hands forward in front of the rear hip.

Your clip from Siggys clip links shows that to be true.Swingbuilderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13301272637937956337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152694412702010704.post-59940795944032136812010-02-22T15:26:15.009-05:002010-02-22T15:26:15.009-05:00Jeff,

Hearing Pujols explanation of thinking about going to right field but not really wanting to go there was awesome. His analysis of the inside pitch was excellent too as well as his description of a powerhitter. Most folks think you have to turn completely on that inside pitch but it was interesting to hear him say that staying inside the ball with his hands on that pitch was his main priority. It must be a little easier for him to do that with a slightly open stance as he showed us.

Keep up the great work & thanks again!Ramus16https://www.blogger.com/profile/03371675779991954007noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152694412702010704.post-46797741196978182912010-02-18T17:54:15.548-05:002010-02-18T17:54:15.548-05:00Jeff,

We feel fortunate to have trained with Mike Epstein for sure.

When you break down a swing....how do you verbally break it down...meaning the mechanics?...I would assume in (3) parts? I know a lot of people who confuse pre-swing movement or style with hitting mechanics.Ramus16https://www.blogger.com/profile/03371675779991954007noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152694412702010704.post-2209493189753483132010-02-18T14:01:19.569-05:002010-02-18T14:01:19.569-05:00Jeff,
The banner in the background in the Griffey...Jeff,

The banner in the background in the Griffey video really puts it into perspective in terms of a hand push back..there is none..it is an illusion.

My guess is that being solid on tape mechanically today is a HUGE part of the game for you in terms of whether or not a player advances to a higher level. I would think it would also minimize your risks as well?Ramus16https://www.blogger.com/profile/03371675779991954007noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152694412702010704.post-82149043102307186262010-02-18T13:39:27.886-05:002010-02-18T13:39:27.886-05:00Jeff,

Early lead arm bar is when a hitter uses his lead arm to push his hands back in the loading phase of the swing. This I would consider unhealthy for a good swing.

Arm bar that happens as a result of stretch and after launch I would consider fine and not something that would hinder a good swing.

Here is Griffey so you can gain a better understanding of what he does. Griffey doesn't take his hands back. He rides his rear leg forward and it gives the look that he is barring his lead arm. Actually isn't a arm bar because he isn't taking the hands back by pushing the arm to extension.

http://www.builder.hittingillustrated.com/Pro/Griffeyside.gif

I hope that makes sense.Swingbuilderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13301272637937956337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152694412702010704.post-32346167202861819182010-02-18T11:47:10.947-05:002010-02-18T11:47:10.947-05:00I know that some kids barr their lead arm. I have ...I know that some kids barr their lead arm. I have heard good and bad things on that. I believe it is long & loopy but Ted Williams and Ken Griffery Jr. seem to get away with it just fine. I don't think it looks very good either. I would think it would be more difficult to stay connected that way. What are your thoughts?Ramus16https://www.blogger.com/profile/03371675779991954007noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152694412702010704.post-56625848597662835462010-02-18T10:16:12.492-05:002010-02-18T10:16:12.492-05:00Thats correct Chuck. Deep. Good hitters swing to the plate. They taylor their swings to the plate. Most young hitters and even in high level amatuer leagues and high school and college leagues taylor their swings out in front of the plate. Thats not what good hitters do. The good ones swing the barrel towards the plate so that they can hit the ball deep.
Here lets look at Albert Pujols for an example. Look at the path of his barrel. See how the barrel goes backwards and gets on the plane of the ball deep behind him?
http://www.builder.hittingillustrated.com/Pro/Pujolsswivela.gifSwingbuilderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13301272637937956337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152694412702010704.post-5435852877671363952010-02-17T01:28:04.188-05:002010-02-17T01:28:04.188-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.swingbuilderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09378157617166694592noreply@blogger.com
